Root Canal Dentist Can See Deep Inside Your Mouth With Special Tools

Root Canal Dentist

As a root canal dentist, we can save your natural tooth after it has become infected.  This is incredibly important since preserving your natural tooth is essential for continued bone health and your ability to eat and speak clearly.  While we have replacement options if you do lose a tooth, it is in your bets interest to save the one that you have.  While a lot of dentists do perform a root canal, more complicated cases are best handled by a specialist or a dentist that does so on a regular basis.

A root canal becomes necessary when the center of your tooth becomes infected.  This area called the dental pulp, can become infected due to a cavity or tooth trauma.  As it does, your tooth may begin to feel significant discomfort.  What many people don’t realize is that removing the infection can be fairly complicated, and it starts with the proper diagnosis.  A tooth can have multiple canals that look like branches going into your gums.  In order to treat your tooth completely, we must identify those canals and whether or not they are infected.  In order to do so, we have special imaging tools that allow us to see deep inside your mouth.

Without modern dental technology, it would be very difficult to diagnose all of the areas of infection because it would be challenging, if not impossible, to see all of the canals.  Fortunately, technology has improved to the point that we can perform more accurate and detailed treatments.  This allows us to save teeth that may have otherwise been pulled. As a root canal dentist, we specialize in doing so.

A root canal is performed by creating a small hole in your tooth so that we can access and remove the infected area.  Since it is the center of your tooth and the canals that are infected, this step is necessary.  We will gently and carefully remove the infected tissue and roots if need be.  Once the infection has been removed, we will clean the inside of your tooth.  We may also prescribe you antibiotics to take in order to ensure that all of the infection is gone.  Once done, we will use a rubbery substance to seal up the hole.

Very often, our patients also need to wear a dental crown in addition to having the root canal.  This is necessary when a significant portion of the tooth structure was removed during the procedure.  For example, if there is tooth decay as well or a lot of the enamel is missing.  A crown is a cap that surrounds the tooth entirely in order to ensure that nothing can touch the natural, damaged tooth.  Once in place, you can eat like normal and bite down with full force without needing to worry about your tooth feeling uncomfortable.  Since the crowns can be created in a tooth-colored material, it will also blend in with your surrounding teeth.  As a root canal dentist, we can complete this procedure in a way that is comfortable so that you can get back to good health.
