Why Adults Should See an Invisalign® Dentist

If you are an adult with crooked teeth, consult an Invisalign® dentist. This is an excellent way to straighten your teeth without wearing traditional metal braces.  The process is easy, comfortable, and no one will notice that you are wearing a corrective device.

No matter how old you are, there are many benefits to straightening your teeth.  Crooked teeth are more susceptible to becoming infected because bacteria and plaque can become trapped in between teeth and cause a cavity.  They can also become yellow more easily since they are harder to clean.

When teeth are crooked, it can also create problems with your bite and your jaw.  Many people grind their teeth because of this which can lead to headaches and jaw pain.  Simply straightening your teeth can reduce or eliminate much of this pain, and an Invisalign® dentist can make that possible.

Invisalign® is different than traditional orthodontics because nothing is permanently placed onto your teeth.  With metal braces, a bracket is placed on each tooth, and wire is threaded between them and secured into place with a rubber band.  The wires need to be replaced on a regular basis in order to straighten teeth further.  This requires frequent trips to the orthodontist.

When a patient starts the Invisalign® process, a series of aligners are created in the beginning and given to the patient to wear.  Every two weeks, the old aligner is taken off, and a new one is put on which continues to move the teeth closer to their perfect shape.  This can be done at home, while traveling, etc.  For adults with busy schedules, this is much more convenient and makes it easier to have their teeth straightened.

Since the aligner is completely clear, it doesn’t impact a person’s appearance while their teeth are being straightened.  In fact, you may see an improvement as teeth become more and more straight.  Additionally, the aligner only needs to be worn for 22 hours a day so it can be removed for special occasions, eating meals, and brushing teeth.  This creates a level of flexibility that is not found in traditional braces.

Once teeth are straight, patients may experience additional benefits that can only come from a beautiful smile.  There have been studies conducted recently that prove a person’s smile can impact how other people view them.  Oral-B asked questions of 2,000 people and found that people with a beautiful smile were considered to be 20 percent more attractive than those without.  This confirms another poll conducted by Match.com that found both men and women viewed a person’s smile as their most attractive quality.  The reason this matters is that according to research conducted by the University of California, attractive people actually make more money and are more successful at work.  In fact, in the study they made 12 percent more than their peers.  In other words, straightening your teeth can have benefits that extend past improving your oral health and how much you enjoy your smile.

To find out if this procedure is right for you, speak with an Invisalign® dentist.
